Internship Summary
Psychology residents at SSM Health work in 2 tracks allowing them to specialize with a particular
population and age group. There is a focus on strong clinical skills and supervisory relationships which
support residents’ desired therapeutic orientation, while adding knowledge and expanding therapeutic
intervention skills. This includes EMDR training, which is optional and funded at 50%. Residents get yearlong
group therapy experience which they can tailor to their own expertise. DBT group training and experience is
provided.
Residents will become proficient in skills related to differential diagnosis and assessment; creating and
maintaining a treatment plan with measurable goals; appropriate interventions specific to each patient;
risk and crisis management; collaboration with other professionals in team consultation meetings; and
integration of research into practice.
Residents will have the opportunity to receive weekly assessment supervision focusing on learning,
practicing, administering, and scoring psychological (e.g., TSI-II, MMPI-3, CAARS, etc.) and cognitive testing
(e.g., WAIS-IV/WISC-V, WIAT-IV, etc.) relevant to various presenting concerns that may be seen by residents
in clinical practice (e.g., learning disability, intellectual disability, ADHD, psychiatric conditions). Weekly
assessment supervision may also include discussion of resident assessment cases or relevant/new
assessment-focused research.

About SSM Health Behavioral Health
SSM Health mental health professionals are a culturally and professionally diverse group of trauma-informed
clinicians working in inpatient and outpatient settings. Psychologists, neuropsychologists, psychiatrists and
Advance Practice Nurse Practitioners, nurses, SUD counselors, Masters’ prepared clinicians, social workers,
art therapists, and kind support specialists collaborate to make our services fine-tuned to the individual at
any age. Specialization in neurodiverse children and adolescents and a world-class Autism Center bring
innovation and a 7-pronged model for social emotional teaching. There is a focus on suicide prevention and
treatment of trauma (50% or more of our clinicians are trained and regularly utilize EMDR). Our diverse
staff treat mood disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, child and adolescent concerns and
academic difficulties, addiction, eating disorders, chronic pain, couples and family conflict, questions of
neuropsychological function and competency, and various types of trauma from single incident to complex.
Training Locations
Training is conducted in outpatient facilities located in the greater Fond du Lac area. Residents will also have
the opportunity to work in various community-based programs within Fond du Lac. Outpatient facilities
include:
St. Agnes Hospital, a state-certified outpatient mental health clinic, is the main training site for Doctoral
Residents. Comprising the fifth floor of the Diagnostic & Treatment Center, our Behavioral Health department
provides both inpatient and outpatient services. St. Agnes Hospital has long been recognized as a leader in
providing quality care for members of our community with psychological and addictive concerns.
Our highly-trained team of professionals includes psychiatrists, an addictionologist, psychologists, a
neuropsychologist, psychotherapists, nurses, family therapists, social workers, and certified alcohol and other
drug abuse (AODA) counselors. These professionals work together to serve children, adolescents, adults,
couples and families.

wide variety of counseling, assessment, and consulting services in a comfortable and confidential setting.

Program Structure and Intern Experience
Residents will have a full-time position, working approximately 40 to 42 hours a week for 12 consecutive
months beginning and ending in September. The start date for the 2025-2026 cohort will be September 2,
2025. Residents specialize in one of two areas: Trauma or Child/Adolescent. Residents will be matched with
an emphasis-specific supervisor and will be availed of a clinical population that will enable their growth in
the chosen area. The Trauma resident will work at additional sites including SSM Health’s Domestic Violence
Services and Beacon House, a recovery group home located in Fond du Lac. The Child/Adolescent resident
will have additional experiences at Fond du Lac High School and our autism treatment program. Residents
may elect to experience learning activities outside of their chosen emphasis. This option is schedule and
availability dependent and will be negotiated on an individual basis.

Supervision and Evaluation
Each resident receives weekly supervision and support from multiple professionals. Residents will be
matched with a primary supervisor, specific to their chosen concentration and receive supervision from other
psychologists at their secondary outpatient sites and emphasis sites. Residents’ overall strengths and areas for
growth will be evaluated at the beginning, middle and end of their year-long experience. Residents will have
the opportunity to provide feedback during supervision sessions and formally at the end of each trimester.
Residents will also complete a formal evaluation at the end of the internship which will be read and processed
after completion of the program. The first person to review the evaluation is a psychologist that is not an
employee of SSM Health and will use this information to advise the internship program.
Stipend, Benefits and Resources
Residents will receive $43,015/year plus full benefits of a SSM Health staff member. Residents accrue paid time
off (PTO). PTO is used for sick days, holidays, and vacation time. Residents will have one week of vacation time
with additional time negotiable for dissertation defense. Any unused PTO will be paid out at end of internship.
Residents have shared primary office space with individual desktop computers, telephones, voicemail and
storage. Multiple consultation rooms for treating patients are shared with consistency a priority. Residents
utilize a computerized medical record and scheduling system with full administrative and IT support. Residents
are availed of all the support services of SSM Health, including public relations, marketing, and printing services.

Resident Expectations
The SSM Health Doctoral Internship is a year-long, full-time experience. Residents are expected to complete
a minimum of 2,000 hours of training during the year. Residents are also expected to achieve the goals
and objectives of the training program, as stated below, and to abide by the APA Code of Ethics, the
requirements of the training program, and the policies and procedures of their employer, SSM Health.
Internship Mission Statement
Following a practitioner-scholar model, SSM Health trains residents in the practice of clinical psychology
developing individuals who serve as clinical resources for their communities. Doctoral psychology residents
in our program will be competent to practice autonomously in their future roles as licensed psychologists
providing compassionate care to all persons at every stage of life. SSM Health trains clinical psychologists
who are able to effectively evaluate and utilize research and who use scholarly inquiry to inform their
practice. SSM Health offers comprehensive training with specialized focus in areas of chosen emphasis
(Health Psychology, Trauma and Child/Adolescent).
Training Objectives
• Psychology residents demonstrate an excellent ability to identify ethical issues as they arise, consult with
colleagues as a matter of course and maintain an ethical stance at all times.

and maintaining client confidentiality.
• Psychology residents demonstrate respect for and partnership in working with other professionals,

About St. Agnes Hospital
History
St. Agnes Hospital began with the visionary leadership of Mother Agnes Hazotte, first general superior of the
Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes. Understanding the need for health care services in this region, Mother
Agnes made a commitment to open a hospital in Fond du Lac and provide the necessary resources to help
improve the overall health and well-being of area communities. Building upon the healing mission of Jesus,
St. Agnes Hospital was originally dedicated on June 23, 1896. Mother Agnes’ legacy continues today through
SSM Health.
