Christmas wishes
Honoring those whove made a dierence,
the importance of change, and more
By Robert Kimberly
Executive Director
Changes aren’t just important, theyre
necessary. Every living thing has to adapt
and grow in order to survive. Change is not
only necessary for people, it’s necessary for
organizations too.
Recently, Joe Manning, one of our longest
serving board members, decided to step down
from his position with Southeastern Childrens
Home and move into an emeritus board
position. Joe has faithfully served SECH for 29
years. At times he has served as the Chairman
of the Board. Additionally, he has spent
innumerable hours working with our Finance
committee and as Treasurer. Joe was able to
use his experience in banking and nance
to help guide SECH through some rather
tumultuous economic times. I can’t thank him
enough for the behind-the-scenes work he has
done for our organization.

The importance of change
1
For many of our children, Christmas IS the
most wonderful time of the year.
Every year, dozens of volunteers and partners
purchase gifts contained on each child’s “Wish
List. Some wishes are extravagant, others are
not.
“For many of our children, it’s the one
real Christmas they will ever experience,
Development Associate Christy Nodine said.
Were trying to make special memories that
can last a lifetime. Often, our children have
never had a traditional Christmas.
The children
especially look
forward to this
time of year.
“Each Christmas
I look forward to
singing Christmas
carols, decorating
the house, and, of
course, opening
presents, Olivia,
a 13-year old
resident said.
“Family is really
important to me.
Since I don’t get to see my biological family,
Christmas with my SECH family is like a present.
Christmas allows each of our children the
opportunity to be a child.
“Even though
I’m 13, and people
treat me like I’m
20, I still enjoy
waking up early
and opening
my stocking
on Christmas
morning, Olivia
said. “Christmas
makes me feel like
a kid again.
Christmas at
SECH would not
happen without
the generosity of
those throughout
the Carolinas.
This is the one
time our kids can
get new, brand
name items.
Christy Nodine
said. “Our kids are used to receiving hand-me-
downs and used clothes for most of their life,
but they want to be like every other kid at

Christmas is always a time of year we get to
spoil the kids with something new that they
will make them proud.
Each child is unique with their wishes. Many
are excited with even the smallest gifts.
“I love to get up early and see what presents
we have under the Christmas tree, 12-year-old
Brianna said. “Last year, I was so excited about
the Justin Bieber coloring books I got. I was so
happy. I just don’t know how to explain it.
“Last Christmas I received an Ipod, 15-yr old
Miyana said. That was one of the most special
gifts I’ve ever received.
Its a special season at Southeastern
Childrens Home. It’s a season of giving and
loving. Thank you for being a part of making
this time of year special for our children.

God’s Good News
By Jasminn
From abuse and faithful tears in my tissue,
To hope and uplifting words of God’s good news,
The conicted love of esh told me to bow down and kiss
their feet,
I worship no one other than you, no matter how many tears
fell pass my cheek.
Confused in the esh of mine,
How my heart and mind intertwine.
My mind says it will be alright,
You can x it yourself by the end of the night.
All it takes is time and mind process,
Then again my heart spoke and confessed.
You need God to complete your soul,
Don’t stay with a price tag to be sold.
You don’t have to be an item waiting to be purchased,
God will unfold everything so you won’t feel pain and the
hurting.
He’s waiting for me to sign the adoption papers so he can
take me in,
It took me 19 years but I did it. Amen.
Jasminn talks about her spiritual journey
and her baptism, shown here, on page 5.

We are excited that four of our children have
recently made the decision to become baptized
believers. Kyleigh, Jasminn, Porschia, and Alex
have each taken steps
to live their lives for
God.
“I just felt like it
was time to make a
conscious decision to
turn my life around, 14-
yr old resident Kyleigh
said. “It was time for me
to start living for God.
I’ve known for a long
time that I needed to
make some changes.
Kyleighs decision
was aided by the Bible
studies led by her
houseparents.
“Mr. Bryan and
Mrs. Kelly lead Bible
studies in our house
sometimes, Kyleigh
said. They take things
that are happening in
our house and relate to
the Bible. Sometimes it
really provides the help
I need.
Similarly, 19-yr old
Jasminn Dow felt it was time to make some
necessary changes.
“Before I came to the childrens home, I knew
about God, but I didn’t know God, Jasminn said.
“I was never in a home that went to church.
Going to Sunday morning and Wednesday night
Bible classes helped me a lot. It just gave me
more opportunities to learn more and to be with
other people who loved God.
For many of our children, becoming a
Christian is dicult because of the issues they
have dealt with in their childhoods.
“I had to let go of my past, Jasminn said. “For
too long, I was angry with people who were
supposed to take care of me. Now, I’m more
open to talking about my history. And now, I’ve
forgiven those who hurt me or didn’t protect
me. I’m no longer a victim to my past.
Please pray for Kyleigh, Jasminn, Porschia, and
Alex as they begin their walk with Christ.
