THE LAKE STAGE
The musical positioning of the Lake Stage is distinguished by its unifying scope, brought to life by
unquestionable talents, outstanding instrumentalists and exceptional voices. The breathtaking
natural scenery of the mountains and the lake are the backdrop to this spectacular stage.
A stage on the lake in Montreux? The Festival couldn't pass up the opportunity to invite Deep Purple to perform 'Smoke on
The Water' on the Lake Geneva shoreline. The icing on the cake is that this will mark the band's 10
th
concert at the Festival.
Legendary Detroit singer Alice Cooper will kick o an evening of seventies hard rock with a bang. Another legendary band
from the same decade, Kraftwerk's electronica will provide a striking contrast to the natural setting of the Lake Stage. The
latest release from the Düsseldorf pioneers, a live compilation of their 2012 - 2016 tours, won the Grammy Award for Best
Electronic Music Album.
Over the course of seven concerts at Montreux, Sting has never before performed in a trio. This summer, the enduring bassist
and singer will be accompanied by a guitarist and a drummer - just like The Police. He will be preceded by the soulful colossus
Rag 'n' Bone Man for a truly memorable evening. After missing out in 2020, the indefatigable live performer Lenny Kravitz
will be appearing in Montreux for the third time. His 12
th
studio album, Blue Electric Light, is due for release on 24 May.
Lake Geneva will have a bayou feel on 5 July when Trombone Shorty and Jon Batiste, two iconic New Orleans artists, take
over the Lake Stage for its grand opening night. The two musicians have set the Festival alight every time they've played,
Jon Batiste even ending his concert last summer in the street with his flamboyant marching band.
For the rst time in Montreux
The 58
th
edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival will feature major premieres for a number of long-anticipated bands. Icons
of British pop culture since 1978, Duran Duran, will nally bring their synth pop anthems to the Festival. New wave's most
glamorous band hasn't played in French-speaking Switzerland for 35 years. They will be preceded by another iconic eigh-
ties band, the duo Soft Cell of “Tainted Love” fame. The arrival of The Smashing Pumpkins - one of the ercest and most
audacious bands of the nineties - is exceptional in more ways than one. Eleven years after their last concert in Switzerland,
the Chicago band will be playing in Montreux for the rst time. The French duo Justice arrive with a much-anticipated
album, which will include the brilliant collaboration with Tame Impala released earlier this year.
Rarely seen on the road in Europe, funk phenomenon Vulfpeck will be performing in Switzerland for the very rst time.
Formed in 2011, the American band generated a huge buzz in the funk and jazz world, displaying their irreverent mastery
of groove, and their obeat homemade videos. In 2019, they became one of the only independent bands to ll Madison
Square Garden.
Following her recording-breaking haul of 6 Brit Awards this year, British singer RAYE is denitely having her moment. A
cross-pollination of her Ghanaian, English and Swiss heritage, her music fuses soul, pop, jazz and blues inspirations with
ludicrous ease. She will be performing on the same night as electric former Prince protégée and Montreux regular, Janelle
Monáe, whose comeback album The Age of Pleasure followed acclaim for her lm roles.
Winning combinations
Harmonious, complementary programming has become a hallmark of the Festival, creating such lasting impressions.
First up, two giants of nineties electronic music: Massive Attack, returning after a ve-year absence, and Air, who will
be playing their seminal album Moon Safari in full for the rst time, to celebrate its 25
th
anniversary. Then two indie rock
stalwarts with venturesome discographies: PJ Harvey and The National both released their tenth albums last year. More
popular than ever, The National are cited by Taylor Swift as being her favourite band, and were voted Group of the Year
2023 by Forbes magazine.
Diana Krall and Jamie Cullum, jazz pianists and singers who enthral extensive audiences, will be performing in Montreux
for the sixth and seventh times respectively. Since her last appearance (in 2013), the Canadian has released four albums,
including a duet with Tony Bennett. Then two evenings which represent dierent facets of the British scene: delicate
melancholy and euphoric dance. The rst with Michael Kiwanuka and Jungle, the second with Jessie Ware and Paolo
Nutini. This is the rst appearance for Jessie Ware at Montreux, whose sophisticated disco-pop has been critically
acclaimed.
Finally, Zucchero will once again bring his powerful anthems to the waters of Lake Geneva, following his last concert on
the Lake Stage in 2021. He will be preceded by Britain's James Arthur, author of the hit “Say You Won't Let Go”, one of
Spotify's 20 most streamed songs of all time.

THE CASINO STAGE
The Casino programme reflects the versatility of today's music which blurs the lines between
jazz, afrobeat, pop and rap. Steeped in musical history, this intimate venue has also proved
ideal for showcasing special projects by established artists.
A veritable icon since the sixties, Dionne Warwick nally joins the pantheon of great divas who have played the Montreux
Jazz Festival. After Aretha Franklin, she is the most charted vocalist of the 20
th
Century on Billboard's Hot 100. Among her
many hits, 'Walk on By' was recently given a contemporary twist by Doja Cat.
Since her Lisztomania concert last summer, Laufey has set a new record for Spotify's most streamed jazz album, and
won her first Grammy Award. An unexpected ambassador for vocal jazz, the Icelandic artist has won Gen Z over with
her tastefully anachronistic arrangements and contemporary lyrics. She will be performing on the same night as d4vd,
whose melancholy ballads have won over so many on TikTok. The two artists collaborated on the track 'This is How it
Feels' and may be performing it for the first time together at Montreux.
Whether it's Afro-American or British, jazz, soul or R&B, one word runs through much of the Casino's programme:
groove. Drummer Yussef Dayes, a spearhead of the UK jazz scene, will be sharing the bill with the new queen of British
R&B, Mahalia. The irresistible Afro-jazz collective Kokoroko will be performing on the same night as Jamaican-Ame-
rican multi-instrumentalist Masego. Having twice shaken up the Festival with her band Alabama Shakes, Brittany
Howard will offer up her critically acclaimed soul-rock. For the second time, Paloma Faith brings her glamorous soul
and instantly recognisable voice to Montreux. And there's no shortage of new talent, including: Victor Ray, whose voice
has taken London by storm; and two recent signings who perfectly embody the Daptone Records label's retro-soul
vibe, Thee Sacred Souls and Jalen Ngonda. Belgian singer Selah Sue has always worn British and American inspirations
on her sleeve - Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill to name but two - and has collaborated with the likes of Childish Gambino,
Marcus Miller and Cee Lo Green.
The Casino's programme also brings to the fore the sounds of Africa, the new epicentre of world pop, with its irresistible
crossovers of Afrobeat, hip-hop and R'n'B. Tems, the first Nigerian female artist to win a Grammy Award, has already
enjoyed a string of prestigious collaborations with the likes of Beyoncé and Drake. Best known for her hit 'Water,' Tyla
developed her own sound by fusing R&B with Amapiano, a highly percussive sub-genre of South African deep house.
Africa is also a major source of inspiration for three of the French-speaking artists on the programme. Yamê, this year's
revelation at the Victoires de la Musique, synthesises rap, French chanson and jazz along with his Cameroonian roots
into his own unclassifiable style. The new breakthrough on the rap scene, TIF, infuses his music with nostalgia for his
native Algeria, while Disiz, (formerly know as La Peste), reinvents himself with a more eclectic sound on his latest intros-
Four exceptional projects
On 21 November 1970, hippies from across Europe gathered at Montreux Super Pop (organised by Claude Nobs)
for Pink Floyd's concert at the Casino. More than 50 years later, Nick Mason's comeback echoes this event
by revisiting the same repertoire. With his Saucerful of Secrets project, the Floyd drummer and co-founder
focuses on the band's early years from 1967 to 1972, including the Syd Barrett period and cult hits such as 'Atom
Heart Mother' and 'Echoes'.
After shattering the conventions of hip-hop with OutKast, André 3000 will be touring as an instrumentalist for the
rst time. Swinging from jazz improvisations to meditative atmospherics, the Atlanta native explores the sounds of
his dierent flutes, playing with top musicians from the jazz and ambient scenes. Released at the end of last year,
his album New Blue Sun became the rst instrumental record to reach the Top 200 of the Billboard charts.
In an unprecedented four-handed recital, Thibault Cauvin and -M- (Matthieu Chedid) mirror each other's virtuo-
sity on acoustic and electric guitars. Thibault Cauvin, the world's most decorated guitarist (36 international prizes),
has given over a thousand performances in 130 countries. As for -M-, he is now a regular at the Montreux Jazz
Festival. He has played for Quincy Jones and taken part in some of the Festival's most memorable jam sessions.
Finally, Asaf Avidan will be performing solo for the rst time in Montreux. It promises to be a magical event, lled
with multi-instrumental prowess.

THE FREE STAGES
The free programme will be announced on 5 June 2024. This summer, festival-goers will be thrilled by a route
stretching along the quays, from the 2m2c to the Place du Marché (market square). There will be eleven free
stages to discover, including: the ibis MUSIC Terrace with electro-pop concerts and DJ sets; Ipanema, a water-
front house and techno nightclub; El Mundo, a hotbed of Latin music; the Super Bock Stage, an open-air stage
with an eclectic line-up; and the Nestlé Terrace, a new stage dedicated to Swiss jazz artists supported by the
Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation.
The Audemars Piguet Parallel Experience returns in a new, undisclosed location. The Festival is also bringing back
the Lake House. Occupying three floors of the Petit Palais, the venue oers a multitude of experiences in its die-
rent rooms: The Memphis, a jazz club devoted to trends in the genre and legendary jam sessions, sponsored by
Bank Julius Baer; La Coupole, a funk, house, disco and urban nightclub; Le Cinéma, a screening room for lms,
concerts and documentaries; and La Bibliothèque, which brings together book and vinyl collections, presented
each day by a special guest.
pective album.
The Casino also devotes its stages to the pop sensations of today. First, with the emotionally-charged pop of two preco-
cious talents, 19-year-old Briton Henry Moodie and 20-year-old Canadian Lauren Spencer Smith. Then an evening
featuring two powerful, expressive vocalists: Swedish superstar Loreen, whose euphoric anthems make her the only
woman to have won Eurovision twice, and France's Santa, singer of the band Hyphen Hyphen and enjoying a successful
solo hit with 'Popcorn Salé'.

EXTENSION OF THE 2M2C WORKS
The Municipality of Montreux has announced an extension to the work on the Conference Centre, making
it impossible to hold events in the building throughout 2025. The 59
th
edition of the Montreux Jazz Festival,
scheduled for 4 to 19 July 2025, will therefore also take place outside of the 2m2c. The Festival team, currently
focusing on the forthcoming festival, will announce the exact layout of the 59
th
edition when the time comes.
The work extension is due to energy eciency improvements, recently awarded from special funds granted by
the Canton and the Loterie Romande, which is dedicated to sustainable development. These funds will add
value to the building, particularly in terms of sustainable energy use.
The new completion date is as yet unknown, but the Municipality of Montreux is doing everything possible
to ensure that the 2m2c reopens its doors in spring 2026. The Montreux Jazz Festival should then be able to
return to the Conference Centre to celebrate its 60
th
edition.
